West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen has named Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah as one of his inspirations.

Speaking to journalist Charlie Woollard of Hayters TV, Bowen raved about Salah, calling him ‘the best of the best.’

“There’s a lot of left-footed players all around the world, but in the Premier League I look at Mo Salah and what he’s done over the last six years or however long he’s been here,” said the formerly reported Liverpool transfer target.

“The goals that he’s scored and the way that he plays, I’d say that he’s the best of the best in that position. So he’s one that I look at, especially because he plays in the league as well. So yeah, I look at him.”

Bowen and Salah never destined to be teammates

This isn’t the first time that Bowen has hailed Salah as being one of the very best around.

If things had been different, perhaps the England man would have been lining up alongside the Egyptian for Liverpool.

The Reds’ interest in Bowen seemed to be long-held and genuine last summer. However, despite expectations that a bid may arrive at some point, none ever did.

After the 25-year-old forced himself into the England set-up last season, some may have expected Liverpool’s interest to ramp-up. But it seems that Bowen’s excellent season may have actually done the opposite.

Notorious for wanting to find value in their transfer dealings, Liverpool might have felt Bowen’s value was now too high.

Also impacting on Liverpool’s decision making was likely the fact that Salah is now guaranteed to stay with the club. Back when news broke of The Reds’ interest in Bowen, this had looked anything but a sure thing.

The club needed to plan in the event that Salah left Anfield, and the man signed for £22m from Hull was probably seen as a potential replacement. He has previously been likened to Liverpool’s no.11 after all

Either way, it now looks desperately unlikely that Bowen will get the chance to play with one of his idols. But you just never know in football.
