Coach says £20m player is just like Mohamed Salah, after claims Liverpool want to sign him

Jarrod Bowen has been earning some lofty comparisons from one of his coaches at West Ham. Stuart Pearce has told talkSPORT that the 25-year-old has similarities in his game to Mohamed Salah.

“The comparisons between him (Bowen) and probably Mo Salah, the way Mo Salah finishes where he stands the defender up and stops him and then goes again or uses the defender, you use the defender to curl the ball around into that far corner,” said Pearce.

We know exactly what he’s talking about. Salah is a master at keeping defender’s guessing in the penalty box.

Pearce says that Bowen is on the right path to get to that level.

“Starting a run then stopping it, killing a defender in his tracks then going again, little things like that, that’s why I think he still has more to come from his game,” the former England defender continued.

Encouragement for Liverpool fans

Bowen is one of the most talked about players in terms of transfers for Liverpool. He has “continued to be monitored” (The Athletic) by The Reds this season as his performances have gone up a level in the Premier League.

Pearce’s comments will add further belief that the player signed for £20m from Hull is the right player for Liverpool.

Of course misguided comparisons are made all the time. Pearce also works with Bowen and therefore isn’t the most impartial observer.

But the coach has been involved in player development for years. He will know a good one when he sees one.

We expect this story to rumble on into the summer. If Bowen keeps his level of performance high throughout the second half of the season, the Liverpool links will only grow stronger.

No doubt Bowen will relish these comparisons. As a left-footed player on the right wing, if you’re going to be compared to anyone, let it be Liverpool’s Egyptian king.
