Liverpool are interested in signing PSG’s Argentinian midfielder Leandro Paredes to bolster their midfield this summer.
That’s according to TNT Sports Argentina, who report that Liverpool want the midfielder as a Naby Keita replacement.
Rather than Keita leaving though, Paredes would reportedly be an option for Jurgen Klopp while the Guinean is out injured.
It’s claimed that The Reds aren’t the only interested party, though. Should Liverpool follow through with their interest in Paredes, they’ll reportedly have to do battle with Juventus for him.
Liverpool not looking for a short-term fix
So it begins. After Keita’s injury at the weekend, there is a mild expectation that Liverpool may yet enter the market for a midfielder.
With a week still to go in the transfer market, Liverpool are likely to be linked with a whole host of midfielders.
In that respect, links to Paredes aren’t a surprise. The 28-year-old has been reported to be looking for a way out of Paris all summer long.
However, it would be a pretty big surprise if there were any truth to these rumours. At twenty-eight, Paredes isn’t in the age bracket Liverpool tend to shop in.
They’ve been adamant that they won’t be sucked into a short-term solution and the Argentine would likely be exactly that.
He’s also not necessarily the type of character that Liverpool usually look to recruit either. Notoriously aggressive, Paredes once claimed via Marca that Lionel Messi wanted to ‘kill him’ after a comment he made about Messi during a game.
At times, Liverpool’s midfield could potentially do with a little more aggression. But Paredes, who signed for PSG for £35m in 2019, often over-steps the line.
Liverpool did reportedly try to sign him once before, though. According to Calciomercato, The Reds attempted to buy him from Roma for just £5m in 2016. They didn’t get him then and it would be a major shock if they got him now.
