Liverpool are worried that Naby Keita could be facing an extended spell on the side-lines through injury.

That’s according to Goal, who claim that there is ‘concern’ that Keita could be facing a ‘lengthy’ injury for Liverpool.

There has been intense speculation over the 27-year-old’s future over the last week or so. This had led to a feeling that Keita’s absence last night could be transfer related. However, Goal report that the Guinean’s injury is a ‘genuine’ one.

No official confirmation has yet come from Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp insisting that further assessment is needed.

Liverpool running out of time in the market

Should Keita be missing for any reasonable amount of time, then Liverpool simply have to act in the transfer market.

The whole world and his dog could see before the window opened that Liverpool needed a midfielder or two. These injuries aren’t a surprise.

That they failed to be proactive with signings already looks like a pretty big mistake. Should they continue to hold off until next year, it could be an enormous one.

Of course the trouble now is that again, the whole world and his dog know that Liverpool need a midfielder or two. Whereas in weeks gone by deals may have been there to be had, quotes for players will now go through the roof.

Not only is the time left to do business ticking down, but Liverpool are clearly desperate.

in 2020/21, The Reds already saw how multiple injuries in a key area can derail a season. And yet, they’re allowing that same thing to happen again. There’s still time to try to mitigate that, though. To fail to act would be negligent in the extreme.

As for Keita, what can you say. A player with clear talent who’s body continues to let him down. As good as he can be at times, he simply can’t be relied upon anymore. Perhaps a transfer and a fresh start would be better for everyone.
