Blackburn Rovers are still hoping Sepp van den Berg will sign from Liverpool in the final days of the transfer window.

That’s according to the Lancashire Telegraph who claim that Rovers are ‘holding out’ for the Liverpool man.

The Championship club are a little short in defence, with midfielder Tyler Morton filling in for them last night.

Morton reportedly isn’t seen as a long-term option at the back though. Instead, Blackburn will look to get van den Berg through the door to help ease the issues.

Liverpool still hanging onto van den Berg

Liverpool’s plan for van den Berg is still not completely clear as we approach the last week of the transfer window.

The Dutchman had been expected to head out on-loan once more. After a stellar 18 months with Preston North End, it’s important to keep his game-time high. That won’t happen at Liverpool.

But despite reported interest in him from at home and abroad, the 20-year-old has stayed on Merseyside.

This can be explained by Liverpool’s unforeseen injury issues at centre-back. Like Blackburn, Liverpool currently have one or two first-team names missing.

Unlike Rovers, The Reds haven’t been forced to put midfielders in the back-line yet. But they have had to stick Nat Phillips in for a Premier League game.

With interest also hot on Phillips, Liverpool are still weighing up what to do. If they let van den Berg or Phillips go, the other will be the current third choice for Liverpool.

That will change with the return of Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip. But until then, Liverpool need to make sure they don’t leave themselves short.
