Borussia Dortmund are monitoring Naby Keita’s situation at Liverpool ahead of a potential move this summer.

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that Dortmund are ‘interested’ in the Liverpool star.

Keita’s future has come under intense scrutiny over the last week or so. That culminated in the 27-year-old again succumbing to a fresh injury issue over the weekend.

Having missed Monday’s game against Manchester United, he could be set for a lengthy spell on the side-line. But perhaps he’s now played his last game for Liverpool, as Dortmund keep an eye on matters.

Keita heading back to Germany?

Dortmund aren’t the only German club reportedly keeping tabs on Keita. The Guinean’s former employers, RB Leipzig, are also claimed to be interested in bring him back to the Bundesliga.

It makes sense. Naby has never fully been able to replicate his form for Leipzig. Despite the trophies won at Liverpool, the Bundesliga remains where he played his best football.

Maybe a move back to Germany could see him regain the kind of form that saw Liverpool spend almost £50m on him.

And it’s actually from Germany where the reports of Keita’s unrest at Liverpool are coming from. It’s all starting to make a lot of sense.

Liverpool and Dortmund open lines of communication

Of course, Dortmund are likely to be searching for a new player in central midfield in the next year or so. Who’s taking odds on a Keita/Jude Bellingham swap deal?

That may be farfetched for this summer. But if Dortmund really are keen to get a deal over the line for the ‘incredible’ Keita before deadline day, perhaps Liverpool’s willingness to play ball could help them in potential dealings for Bellingham down the line?

Again, that seems a little unlikely in the sense that should Keita go now, The Reds would have to replace him immediately. Still, with lines of communication possibly set to open, Liverpool could have a potential opening in their pursuit of Bellingham.
