Diogo Jota is a wonderfully two-footed player and discussed the skill this week. The Liverpool forward manages to do it in a fairly unique way.
We’ve written before about Diogo Jota and how fantastic it is that he can use two feet. The forward opens up so many options with that skill – something few goalscorers can do at the highest level.
It was clear in his first season as he put teams to the sword soon after his £45m move. Creating chances for Jota is simple for Liverpool players and he takes advantage.
One moment in the Merseyside derby last year showed off just how two-footed Jota is. It makes him incredibly difficult to mark in the box, as he’s comfortable going either side. You can’t exactly show him onto his weaker foot.
Jota gave an interview to Sky Sports this week and discussed his two-footedness. Playing in midfield, it seems, triggered the skill.
“When I was young I was playing in midfield on the left for Gondomar in a 4-3-3,” he said. “I was always the number eight playing to the left. So I always used my left foot because it was required.
“I don’t know, I just feel that I do certain things better with the left foot.”
But which is better, then? According to Jota, neither is – each foot is better in different situations.
“With the right, I am more powerful. But I am more accurate with the left,” he says.
Two-footed Diogo Jota
As we say, it’s such an incredibly useful skill to have. Not just for Jota but for Liverpool – being two-footed works wonderfully in a team that wants to attack quickly.

Jota can take advantage of virtually every goalscoring situation as a result. Especially when he’s also proficient with his head. The 25-year-old is an incredible weapon up top now and will only get better.
Add in the versatility that being two-footed naturally brings, allowing Jota to cover every forward role, and Liverpool have a remarkably useful player in their squad.
