Mohamed Salah has insisted that he’s going to be Liverpool’s Premier League record scorer before too long.
Speaking to Football Daily, Salah said that he’s aiming to break Robbie Fowler’s record ‘soon.’
“[I’m going to be] The highest scorer for Liverpool in the Premier League, that’s for sure,” said the Egyptian. “It’s clear in my mind I’m going to do it, hopefully soon.”
Asked if beating the record had played a part in his contract renewal this season, Salah said it hadn’t.
“Even if I didn’t renew, I would break it this season because it’s nine, ten goals. The way I look at myself I’m going to break it,” he said.
More records tumbling for Mo
Salah is actually just nine goals short of Fowler’s record for Liverpool. His goal against Fulham two weeks ago put him one ahead of Michael Owen on 119.
Currently, that’s only good enough for third-place for Mo. Sitting above him in second is Steven Gerrard. But the former Reds captain scored just one more than Salah’s current haul.
Fowler is clear on 128, but it’s surely only a matter of time before Liverpool’s no.11 snatches that record, too.
For Salah to break it, he’d need to score 11 Premier League goals this season. Seeing as he’s never finished a campaign with less than 19 for Liverpool, it looks like a pretty safe bet that he’ll manage it.
That would be a fitting record for Mo, who has already secured his place as one of Liverpool’s best players of all time.
With a further three years on his contract, it’s feasible to think that he could be a long, long way clear of Fowler by the time he leaves Anfield.
Salah has already managed what Fowler, Owen and Gerrard never did with Liverpool – lift the Premier League title. Hopefully his goals can translate into at least one more crown for The Reds before he calls it a day.
