'I think he can be': Fabinho predicts 'really important' teammate will be one of Liverpool's best-ever players

Fabinho has made a big claim about Mohamed Salah and his place in Liverpool history. The Egyptian recently signed a new contract.

Liverpool struck some big deals this summer – signing Darwin Nunez for a massive fee being one of them. However, renewing Mohamed Salah’s contract is almost certainly the biggest of the lot.

His deal was set to expire in 2023 but Liverpool moved to tie their star forward down for the next three years. Salah will remain the main man at the top of the team and it’s safe to say that fans couldn’t be happier with it.

But what’s the take from within the squad? After all, the Egyptian is now on considerably more money than most of them as the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history.

Well, if Fabinho’s comments are anything to go by, they feel Salah is worth it.

“We are really happy for [Salah], happy to see him playing for Liverpool,” said Fabinho, per the Liverpool Echo. “He’s already a Liverpool legend, but I think he can be one of the best Liverpool players in the history of this club.

“So I’m happy for him, for sure he will continue to score goals and play his best football because he is really important for us.”

Mo Salah in Liverpool history

The fact that Fabinho labels Salah ‘a legend’ already but sees him going even further to be ‘one of the best’ suggests the Brazilian means top four or five players here. And that’s a big claim.

After all, the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard left impacts on the club that are nearly impossible to match. But perhaps Salah can get in that bracket.

He’s a three-time Golden Boot winner during one of the best periods in Liverpool’s history. He’s setting records and scoring at rates we haven’t really seen before. A few more contributions to the top trophies and Salah truly could be in the discussion as the best-ever.

It’s a big ask, of course. He can’t match Dalglish’s trophy haul, for instance, while it’s difficult to carry a Liverpool side this good in the way Gerrard did his.

But who knows? Salah keeps performing the incredible and surprising everyone with the levels he can reach. The next three years could be very special.
