Mohamed Salah says he has a new ultimate goal for the season at Liverpool after ‘always’ chasing the same thing. The Egyptian wants the Premier League title back.

Mohamed Salah goes into the rest of his prime years fully committed to Liverpool. He wants to achieve things on Merseyside as he looks to leave his legacy at the club.

Now, there are plenty of individual awards and record for him to chase, of course. But what about the team goal? Salah talked to Sky Sports about his aim for this season – and it’s a change from the usual.

“I never say before the season [my individual goals],” Salah said. “But the collective one is the Premier League and Champions League. It has to be. That was my target last season and I go again until I win both again.”

The Egyptian was then pushed to pick just one out of the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

“I always say Champions League, but this year I can say the Premier League.”

Mohamed Salah on his season goal

It’s an interesting one, given Liverpool came equally close to winning both last season. While Salah wants both, something has changed his perspective on the one that matters most.

Perhaps that’s because Liverpool came away from the Premier League season with more regret. An extra point here or a goal there would have sent the trophy to Anfield. The margins were unbelievably small – a better final 15 minutes from Aston Villa on the final day would have swung it.

And while the Champions Leauge is the ultimate prize, you judge teams on their league trophy haul. That’s the true measuring stick for great sides and this Liverpool team ‘only’ have one. And one that they couldn’t celebrate with the fans.

Salah certainly won’t be alone in prioritising the Premier League this season, then. Liverpool aren’t off to the greatest start in that regard but things can swing quickly. We certainly saw that last season.
