Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool have a better chance at the title now that one player is finally ‘fully fit’. The Reds have a difference maker.

Liverpool lost out on the Premier League title last season by a single point. It was heartbreaking, in all honesty – just one draw needed to be a win and the Reds were champions.

The positive take, though, is that Liverpool barely need to improve on last season and they’ll take the trophy. They might simply need a bit more luck to do it – or for Manchester City to lose a little of theirs.

And maybe that luck is already apparent. Jamie Carragher sees one difference to this time last year that could ultimately push Liverpool over the line and win the title.

“I think Liverpool will be going for every trophy,” he told YM Liverpool. “They finished one point behind Manchester City last season and that can easily go the other way.

“The fact [Virgil] Van Dijk is now fully fit and raring to go, I think gives Liverpool a great chance. But it’s hard to say. I’ve tipped Liverpool for the league because I’m a Liverpool fan. You saw what they did last season – two games away from winning four trophies.

“They are a special team, they’ve got a special manager, and we’ve got to cherish them and just savour these three or four years before this team breaks up a little bit. But hopefully, this is a season to remember.”

This isn’t the first time that Carragher has pointed out just how valuable a fully-fit Van Dijk could be. This time last year, after all, he was still trying to find his rhythm after nearly a year out with a knee injury.

Liverpool having Van Dijk all season long truly could make the difference come May. Certainly, he’s the player in the side who makes the biggest individual impact. There’s no replacement who matches his quality in any area, while Jurgen Klopp can’t make an obvious tactical change to help.

Thus having Van Dijk all season long really could be what wins Liverpool the title. We’re talking about a two-point swing, after all. The Dutchman being at his best could easily make that happen.
