Neco Williams was magnificent on his home debut for Nottingham Forest this weekend. Liverpool sold the player over the summer.
Liverpool sold Neco Williams to Nottingham Forest last month. Goal claims the Reds brought in a guaranteed £12m with the sale, potentially rising to around £17m with add-ons.
It was a sale that was always going to make sense. Williams performed well on loan at Fulham last season but never had a path into Liverpool’s first-team. Not with Trent Alexander-Arnold in his way.
And while we did believe that his value would rise in a year, no one could blame Liverpool for cashing in on a player they couldn’t really use. But it quite quickly looks as though Forest landed a bargain.
Williams played his home debut on Sunday as Forest beat West Ham United 1-0. Ex-Red Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal but it was the Welsh right-back who stole the show.
No one in the game registered more touches than Williams (74) and he was a defensive force with six tackles. Six tackles from seven attempts, in fact – a magnificent rate.
Going forward, Williams was fantastic, too. His two dribbles were a match-high for Forest, as were his two key passes. This was an all-action display to be proud of.
Neco Williams shines on Forest home debut
Williams has always been an incredibly talented young player capable of these performances. We didn’t think he’d fit into life as a Premier League starter quite this quickly, though.

He immediately looks like a brilliant starting right-back at the top level and, in truth, a player worth more than £17m. Of course, it’s still very early days but we’ve seen these displays for Wales, too.
Liverpool will keep a keen eye on Williams, naturally. We wouldn’t entirely rule out seeing him back at the club one day, either, but for now, it’s clear that Forest have a fantastic player. Finally, he can show what he’s capable of.
