Reported Liverpool transfer target Matheus Nunes scored a screamer tonight as he underlined his quality.
There has been intense transfer speculation surrounding him, including interest from Liverpool. Despite the rumours though, Nunes started for Sporting Lisbon against Rio Ave tonight.
And as seen via VSPORTS on Twitter, it was a good job he was playing. Picking up the ball miles from goal on the right-hand side of the area, Nunes assesed his options.
With no teammate suitably placed, the 23-year-old nudged the ball forwards before unleashing a ferocious strike. The screamer almost broke the net as it flew past the goalkeeper to give Sporting a 2-0 lead. What a hit, son.
Nunes shows why he’s hot property
Over the last couple of days there have been mixed reports over Liverpool’s interest in Nunes.
Firstly, it was claimed that Liverpool had pulled out of any deal for the Portugal international. Then, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenburg reported that Liverpool were still ‘keeping an eye’ on his situation.
Should The Reds be considering whether or not to pull the trigger on Nunes, perhaps this will just have opened their minds a little.
Liverpool could do with a player who can score out of nowhere like this. Not since Philippe Coutinho left the club has there been a consistent long-range scorer within the squad.

That isn’t all Nunes could bring to the party, but it could certainly help. As reported by Plettenburg, the Brazil-born midfielder could be available for as little as £30m, too.
While a not insignificant sum, it certainly wouldn’t break the bank either.
The Reds recruitment staff are well known to keep an eye on goings-on in Portugal. If they’re keeping on top of the highlights from this weekend, they won’t be able to miss this howitzer from their potential new man.
