‘Open for offers’: Journalist suggests club could sell 23-year-old for just £30m, and Liverpool are interested

Liverpool are still keeping an eye on Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes ahead of a possible move.

That’s according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. Posting on Twitter last night, Plettenberg claimed that Liverpool are in-fact monitoring the 23-year-old’s situation.

However, after reports earlier in the week that Liverpool had pulled out of a deal for Nunes, Plettenberg does counter his claim by suggesting that Liverpool’s interest is ‘not very hot.’

Instead, Wolves are reportedly the most interested party. According to the journalist, Manchester City are the other side ‘still in.’

There had been claims that Nunes could cost as much as £51m. But as reported by the Sky man, Sporting are ‘open to offers’ of around £30m plus add-ons.

Liverpool still in the hunt for Nunes

All signs point to the fact that Liverpool won’t add to their midfield options in what time remains in the window.

By deduction, that would suggest that any interest in Nunes is indeed minimal. But that doesn’t mean that it’s completely out of the question at this point.

Jurgen Klopp has always been consistent in his mantra that should an opportunity arise, The Reds aren’t averse to doing more business.

Perhaps if anything changes in regard to Nunes’ asking price, or his preferences, Liverpool could still pounce.

That would look like a smart course of action given Klopp’s current shortage of options due to injury.

But equally, Liverpool’s recruitment team clearly watch a lot of the Portuguese Liga. They’ve probably seen a lot of Nunes. If they haven’t been wholly convinced enough to make a move by now, then maybe he just isn’t the right fit.

With City reportedly in the mix for the Portugal international though, let’s hope not going in ‘hotter’ won’t turn out to be a regret.
