Four clubs are now lined up to sign Sepp van den Berg on loan, according to reports. The Liverpool defender is in demand.

This comes from the Daily Mail. They name four clubs in the pursuit for Sepp van den Berg as Liverpool attempt to loan him away this month.

Watford, Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United all want the Dutchman. One of those, Burnley, has been reported before and manager Vincent Kompany did label Van den Berg a ‘really good player’ this week.

But it appears he faces plenty of competition within the Championship to secure the player. This one might just go to the wire.

Clubs want Sepp van den Berg on loan

It’s certainly good news for Liverpool that there’s this much interest. Now it really just comes down to the fit – who will give Van den Berg the best development?

On the face of it, Burnley might be the club that ticks all the boxes. Not only are they a club fighting for promotion – and potentially the title – but it’s a chance to have Van den Berg working under Kompany. That’s an exciting prospect for any young defender.

But Watford, too, will be looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League. Having Van den Berg fighting under that kind of pressure is only a good thing.

Blackburn will want to be fighting there, too, though. They looked like potential promotion candidates for a period last season but a terrible second half to the campaign ended those chances. It’s worth noting that Harvey Elliott’s fantastic spell there in 2020/21 could tempt Liverpool, though manager Tony Mowbray has left since then.

Then there’s Sheffield United. The Blades likely also boast promotion ambitions but they don’t seem quite as strong as the other contenders. Though, that could lead to more opportunities for Van den Berg to play a bigger role with the club.

All in all, Liverpool have four really interesting clubs here. Any of them would likely give Van den Berg the right kind of environment in which to grow – whoever guarantees him the most minutes likely wins any race.
