Harvey Elliott hails James Milner as a ‘prime example’ at Liverpool. The youngster has some of the world’s best to learn from.

Harvey Elliott has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool. The 19-year-old will now spend the rest of his formative years at Anfield – and hopefully longer.

Naturally, Elliott has given interviews on signing the new deal. He’s had plenty of praise for teammates, too, such as Mohamed Salah – the Egyptian is constantly trying to improve Elliott, it seems.

But he’s far from the only one getting praise from the teenager. James Milner is another who Elliott looks up to as a ‘prime example’ of Liverpool’s players.

“I want to have a career as some of these players have, I want to play as many games as some of these players have,” Elliott told Liverpoolfc.com. “If you look at Millie, I think he’s the oldest in the team and he is still going strong and probably the fittest in the team.

“He’s just a prime example of what this club brings and the human beings around here so yeah, it’s unbelievable to be around these players and these people and they have helped me a lot along the way.”

There’s strong mutual respect between the veteran and the teenager, it seems. Go back to 2021 and Milner was praising Elliott for the way he handled his injury.

And what more can you ask for? The mentality at Liverpool is sensational and a huge part of why there’s been so much success over the last few years. Milner and Elliott are, in a lot of ways, the perfect examples of it.

You’ve got the veteran midfielder who still pushes himself as hard as anyone, as Elliott points out. And in Elliott, you’ve got a young player who understands the game well beyond his years.

Finding these players is a massive key to winning and Liverpool have a knack for it. The fact that the veterans’ mentality rubs off on the younger players is simply a wonderful side-effect of it all – and Elliott is one who stands to benefit.
