Liverpool staff believe a promising new return date for Thiago is possible, according to reports. The Spaniard will miss weeks regardless.
This comes from the Athletic. The claim Thiago may not miss six weeks as first thought. Liverpool staff are hopeful that he could be back before mid-September – if all goes to plan.
Essentially, that means Thiago’s treatment is flawless and he suffers zero setbacks. Exactly how likely that is, we’re not sure but it appears that Liverpool are holding onto a little bit of hope that they won’t miss the player for too long.
Promising new return date for Thiago
We wrote earlier today that Thiago will almost certainly miss five Premier League games. Even with this new return date, he seems likely to miss those games.
And there are some very important ones in there. Liverpool travel to face both Manchester United and Everton in that span – two of the absolute biggest games of any season. Thiago is certainly going to miss Old Trafford and it’s unlikely that he’ll take to the pitch at Goodison Park, either.
There’s a likely reason that Liverpool are targeting ‘mid-September’, though. The Reds will play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the 18th in what could be their first true title test. It sounds as though they’ve got that game in mind for Thiago’s big return.

The fixture before that will be in the Champions Leauge on the 13th or 14th – possibly a few minutes for the Spaniard there ahead of Chelsea? That would be the best-case scenario, certainly.
But if mid-September is merely the ‘hope’ at this stage, Liverpool should prepare to miss Thiago for longer. Thankfully, an international break comes into play right after Chelsea – he’ll surely be back before the end of that.
And so we won’t expect to see Thiago before October, unfortunately. There’s a chance we do, of course, but we all know how these things go. Mid-September would be great but no one should hold their breath for that one.
