Liverpool have signed Stefan Bajcetic to a new long-term contract after he impressed in pre-season. The youngster looks like a top talent.

This comes from the Liverpool Echo. They say that Liverpool have completely agreed on a new contract for Stefan Bajcetic.

The Spanish 17-year-old stepped up to play with the seniors in pre-season and seriously impressed. Bajcetic did enough, in fact, that Jurgen Klopp included him on the bench against Fulham this weekend.

He’s expected to spend the campaign with the Under 21s but Bajcetic has certainly made a breakthrough. This was apparently the next ‘routine’ step in securing his future and the player looks destined for a bright one.

Jordan Henderson labelled Bajcetic ‘brilliant’ for his efforts in pre-season and they truly were. He played the holding midfield role wonderfully well and remained with the seniors throughout the summer.

What’s extra impressive, then, is that Bajcetic didn’t arrive at Liverpool as a holding midfielder. He’s naturally a centre-back and has been learning his new role over the last year. That has included studying Fabinho as closely as possible in order to pick up as much as he can.

It certainly seems to be working. Liverpool like what they see and Bajcetic is smashing it at every next step. We fully expect to see an EFL Cup showing soon – and hopefully many more after that.

Liverpool, of course, don’t actually have a backup holding midfielder to cover Fabinho. The role is very much there for Bajcetic’s taking – even as a teenager. We’d say it’s as good as his if he continues to impress every time the club asks something of him.

And so Liverpool appear to have a special one here. They put up a fight to sign him from Celta Vigo and it was a fight well worth winning. We can’t wait to see the player Bajcetic becomes.
