Sporting believe a recent £3.4m sale will stop them from having to sell Matheus Nunes to Liverpool, according to reports. The Reds are consistently linked with the midfielder.
This comes from Correio da Manha. They claim that Sporting don’t see a need to sell Matheus Nunes until at least January.
That’s because of the £3.4m sale which saw Bruno Tabata move to Palmeiras. The small income keeps the finances decent for the next little while and strong enough to hold onto Nunes for a little longer.
Nunes is in demand, too. The same outlet believes Liverpool want Nunes, along with the likes of Wolves. Recent days have seen a flurry of speculation that the Reds are after a midfielder, too.
Most recently, journalist Dean Jones told the Football Terrace Podcast that Liverpool saw Nunes as ‘perfect’. That would suggest that calls would follow shortly – but not if Sporting are in no need to sell.
Matheus Nunes to Liverpool
We’ve written before that Nunes is an ideal player for Liverpool. He suits the playing style and delivers pretty much exactly what Jurgen Klopp asks of his midfielders.
But at the end of the day, this one can only happen if Sporting are open to it. It sounds as though they’ll put off any sale until January and if that’s their position, it’s a tough one to navigate.

Liverpool are a massive club with a lot of pulling power, of course, but most clubs could convince a player to wait six months before leaving. We imagine how this one will go.
It’s worth noting that Sporting’s manager has previously claimed that Nunes rejected offers to leave this summer. It really does seem as though they’re determined to hold onto him for a bit.
What remains to be seen, then, is whether Liverpool would consider another target. Or whether Sporting’s stance is enough to make them back off.
