A reports shares Liverpool’s plan for Calvin Ramsay once he returns from his injury. The summer signing is yet to feature.

This comes from Goal. They claim that Calvin Ramsay is close to his return to training after arriving at Liverpool with an injury this summer.

The Reds paid around £8m to sign Ramsay from Aberdeen back in June, per the Athletic. What they didn’t know, however, was that the Scot had a niggling injury and one that prevented him from participating in pre-season.

Ramsay has sat out the entirety of his summer, then. He’s yet to train, let alone play with the first team and it sounds as though we might have to wait some time for that.

Goal’s report suggests that Ramsay will initially feature for the Under 21s, rather than the senior side. So while he is nearly back from his injury, we won’t see him under Jurgen Klopp for a little while yet.

Liverpool’s plan for Calvin Ramsay

It’s not exactly what you want to hear about a summer signing – that he’ll initially play with the youth team. But we don’t really see an alternative here.

Ramsay hasn’t had a pre-season and needs one. He’s also just not used to playing Liverpool’s style and that’ll take some time to learn. Allowing him to do that at youth level for a bit just makes sense, giving him a chance to simultaneously build match fitness.

We imagine he’ll train under Klopp, of course, and should feature in the cup competitions that kick off next month. As for the Premier League, though, we might be waiting for a little bit.

But that was always going to be the case. It won’t be simple for Ramsay to play big games for Liverpool, given he pretty much needs Trent Alexander-Arnold to pick up an injury. It’ll be a slow and steady process for him to truly find a role at Anfield.

At the end of the day, though, we just want to see him in action. If that’s at Under 21 level to start with, then so be it. It’s time to finally get things started for a player with unquestionable talent.
