Liverpool's next reported target fits the bill perfectly, created 10 chances in one game this season - RTK View

Calvin Ramsay is exactly the kind of player Liverpool should be targeting. The full-back fits the bill wonderfully well.

Liverpool supposedly want to sign Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen. That’s according to several outlets, including Sky Sports.

The 18-year-old won the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year this season – a sign of his potential. Liverpool will hope to get that potential out of him, it seems, and the data shows why. Ramsay is exactly the kind of young talent they like.

Calvin Ramsay for Liverpool

Ramsay plays right-back – a position Liverpool do need to fill. Neco Williams will likely move on this summer, even if just on loan, and that leaves the squad without natural cover behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Scouser is a difficult player to cover, though. He’s the most creative full-back in the world – possibly ever – and asking someone to back that up is a big ask.

In Ramsay, though, Liverpool may have found someone. The Scot, for instance, creates around 1.9 chances per game at 18. That’s a fantastic rate from a full-back but what’s more interesting is the potential.

As a teenager, Ramsay isn’t exactly consistent – few young players are. He’s shown an incredible ability to dominate games creatively, though, in ways that few youngsters do. Just take this stat – Ramsay created 10 chances in one game against Ross County this season.

That’s an enormous figure. He’s had games with four, plenty with three, and many with zero. The consistency just isn’t quite there but Liverpool will believe they can find it.

Any teenager with the ability to create 10 chances in a senior game clearly has a special talent. Ramsay, then, is perfectly placed to operate as backup to Alexander-Arnold. He can offer a similar playing style while not needing to play every week right now.

We think Liverpool have found a good one.
