Everton are now getting closer to signing Conor Coady, according to reports. The defender came through at Liverpool.
This come from the Mirror and Sky Sports, among others. They claim that Everton are now very close to wrapping up a deal for Conor Coady from Wolves.
It appears this will be a loan deal with an option to buy and comes as Coady falls out of the Wolves team for the first time in years. 2017 was the last time he found himself sitting on the bench purely by the manager’s choice.
In a World Cup year, that could prove disastrous and Coady wants a move for first-team football. West Ham United have also tried to sign the 29-year-old but it seems Everton won the race.
Conor Coady to Everton
This is a strange one from a Liverpool perspective. Coady came through the academy system and played twice for the Reds before moving on. He’s remained a huge fan, too, as he developed into an international centre-back.
In all honesty, Liverpool made a mistake in letting him go. Coady has since proven himself more than capable of doing a job for the Reds over the years – he just never got a proper opportunity.

And no one could begrudge him a move to Everton, really. It’s a return to his home city, to play in a back three – the system he thrived in at Wolves. It’s hard to see how he’d possibly get a better shot at making the England squad this winter.
But then, we’ve always seen Coady as a Red playing elsewhere. That changes with a move to Everton, even if we can’t blame him for it. Especially after he received some boos at Anfield back in May.
It’ll be a rare-enough sight, though – a Red switching to Blue. He’s certainly not the first but it’s hardly something you ever get used to.
