Darwin Nunez will score ‘bundles’ of goals for his new club after scoring on his Premier League debut for Liverpool.

That’s according to Gary Lineker, who reacted to Nunez’s debut goal with a gushing post on Twitter.

“Darwin Nunez equalises for LFC. Very clear, from that goal alone, that he’ll score bundles. The movement of a goal-scorer,” wrote the Match of the Day host.

After a slow start, Nunez soon found his way into the game. A goal and an assist is a very healthy return for a first game, despite the poor result. More to come.

Nunez off and running in red

It was a slightly unorthodox finish. But with his flicked goal, Nunez became the 11th player to score on their Premier League debut for Liverpool.

He followed that up with a slightly fortuitous assist for Mohamed Salah, but they all count.

Perhaps it could even be argued that the 23-year-old’s introduction changed the course of the result for Liverpool. When he came off the bench for Roberto Firmino, The Reds were rocking at Craven Cottage.

It took Nunez a few minutes to adjust to the pace of the game. Jordan Henderson even had to give him a little wake-up call after losing possession.

But after he found his rhythm, he first tested the Fulham goalkeeper, then brought Liverpool level.

After the hosts edged back ahead with an incredibly soft penalty decision, Nunez’s presence unsettled the Cottagers defenders and allowed Mohamed Salah to equalise again.

With two goals and an assist in his first two Liverpool games, Darwin is already proving his worth. After Firmino started his second game in a row, surely the Uruguayan has to start the game against Crystal Palace a week on Monday.

An auspicious start to his Liverpool career. Without him today, The Reds would likely have lost, and he’s only going to get better from here.
