Teenaged midfielder Stefan Bajcetic trained with the Liverpool first team in the final session before their Premier League opener tomorrow.

The youngster has impressed in pre-season, with Jordan Henderson calling him ‘brilliant’ via liverpoolfc.com. And Bajcetic could be seen once again testing himself against the senior players yesterday.

He went up against his compatriot Thiago Alcantara as he looked to catch Jurgen Klopp’s eye.

It’s virtually impossible that Bajcetic will be in the squad for tomorrow’s match. But it does indicate that the 17-year-old will be in and around the first team this season.

Mrozek capitalises on Kelleher absence

As well as Bajcetic, there was also good news for 19-year-old goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek.

The young Polish ‘keeper found himself around the first-team squad squad for pre-season following some goalkeeping injuries.

And although Alisson Becker has returned, Caoimhin Kelleher has not. As a result, Mrozek continued with the senior team at Kirkby yesterday.

New boys gear up for Premier League debuts

Elsewhere, Liverpool looked in good shape as they head into yet another Premier League season.

Darwin Nunez will be aiming to become just the eleventh player to score on his league debut for The Reds. He warmed up in good fashion in the sun yesterday.

Also gearing up for a first Premier League appearance for Liverpool was Fabio Carvalho. The youngster scored on his debut in the competition for former club Fulham, and will hope to return with a bang to Craven Cottage.

The 19-year-old is likely to start from the bench as Klopp turns to a full-strength side. But the teenager, who has recently earned himself a new nickname amongst the first-team squad, looked sharp here.

All systems are go as Liverpool look to get off to a good start in the Premier League.

Their last trip to Craven Cottage ended in a 1-1 draw after a wobbly performance in 2020/21. They’ll have to be better to record a fifth straight opening day victory.
