Liverpool will pursue Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, according to reports. The Reds will cast aside other plans to do so.
This comes from Bola VIP. They claim that Liverpool want to sign Marcos Leonardo from Santos and are now ready to make it happen.
They hope to sign the striker before his reputation grows further. Wait too long, after all, and competition grows – competition only brings a higher asking price.
Thus Liverpool will try to wrap up a deal here as soon as possible. Leonardo is 19 and scoring with a decent regularity for Santos, with a sense that he could hit another gear sometime soon.
But doing this would mean casting aside any plans to sign Palmeiras striker Endrick. The 16-year-old is the latest revelation in Brazil and recently signed a contract that gave him a £51m release clause. Palmeiras may well believe they can get the full clause when Endrick does eventually move.
Liverpool to pursue Marcos Leonardo
We’ll take this all with a massive pinch of salt. Not only do you see reports like this all the time that come to nothing but Bola VIP don’t appear to have gotten much right this summer.
At the same time, we do know that Liverpool have eyes on Brazilian football and Santos, in particular. Elano, who now coaches for the side, admitted that the Reds tried to strike a deal for Rodrygo before Real Madrid got involved.
And that’s essentially what the claim is here. Liverpool want to sign Marcos Leonardo before the likes of Real drive the price into the stratosphere.
So while we’re taking it with that grain of salt, we’re open to the idea that there’s some truth here. Perhaps Leonardo is the bargain signing Liverpool are looking for as they try to reduce the average age of their squad.
It’s certainly one we’ll keep an eye on.
