'Everyone's watching': TalkSPORT pundit thinks Liverpool man is under real pressure in Community Shield final

Liverpool’s pre-season result against Manchester United has added pressure on Jurgen Klopp ahead of tomorrow’s game against Manchester City.

That’s according to TalkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair. Sinclair claimed that Klopp will be desperate to put the 4-0 result right by winning the Community Shield.

“That’s just put that added little bit of pressure on Jurgen Klopp that he doesn’t want to get beaten off another Manchester club in the way they got beat off Manchester United,” said the pundit.

“I know they played a lot of young players in that first-half when they were 3-0 down but still, second-half with that momentum Manchester United went on to win the second-half 1-0 and it was a 4-0 win.

“So on the back of that I think it just adds a bit of pressure to Jurgen Klopp and his team to make sure that while everyone’s watching they give a better account of themselves than they did against Manchester United.”

Not sure we’re with you on that one, Trevor. Klopp will more than likely have forgotten the result of that United friendly before his head hit the pillow that same evening.

No chance of a repeat result

This is quite a bizarre take from Sinclair. To suggest that the outcome of one meaningless game will put pressure on the outcome of another largely meaningless game just doesn’t really make any sense.

If these were competitive matches, then of course the pressure would be on. Had Liverpool just lost 4-0 to Man United in the Premier League, then the pressure would be on Klopp no matter who The Reds were playing.

But these aren’t competitive games.

The way in which Liverpool lost to United in Thailand was of course disappointing. But if you’re going to take a hammering from your bitter rivals, then let it be in the first game of pre-season.

There’s surely no way of a similar result cropping up when the two teams meet again on August 22nd in the Premier League.

As for tomorrow, there’s always pressure against City. They’ll likely be Liverpool’s main opposition for the league title once again any game between the two at the moment is massive.

It should be remembered that players are still gaining fitness though. Yes, it would be nice to add the Community Shield to the list of honours won under Klopp, but ultimately it’ll be inconsequential to how the season pans out.
