Virgil Van Dijk now posts message on Instagram after Liverpool's 4-0 loss to Manchester United yesterday

Virgil Van Dijk has claimed that Liverpool have ‘a lot to work on’ after yesterday’s heavy defeat against Manchester United.

Van Dijk posted on Instagram after the game to give his take on what was a disappointing evening for Liverpool in Bangkok.

“Big thank you to the Thailand Reds!” wrote the centre-back. “I have genuinely enjoyed every minute of being here. Hope to see you guys back here in the future or at Anfield! Of course, a lot to work on but good for everyone to get important minutes on the pitch today.”

Virgil came off the bench for the final half hour yesterday, with Liverpool already 3-0 down. The Holland captain couldn’t prevent Facundo Pellestri adding the gloss to the win though, as The Reds succumbed 4-0 to their rivals.

Disappointment for the local fans in Bangkok

As disappointing as yesterday’s result was, it’s ultimately meaningless. But there is still a loser in all this, and you have to feel for the local fans inside the stadium.

The support for Liverpool in Bangkok has been as fervent as ever. It really is a shame that The Reds couldn’t at least give them a goal to celebrate.

Of course, Liverpool aren’t here just for show, though. They have a season to prepare for. Over the years we’ve become accustomed to Jurgen Klopp experimenting in pre-season, and yesterday was no different.

Still, there was enough firepower on the pitch at various times for Liverpool to at least grab a goal.

Unfortunately in football sometimes things just don’t go your way. The Reds hit the post several times as David de Gea’s goal led a charmed life.

Still, hopefully those fans can take solace in seeing pretty much every single one of their heroes at one stage or another. Only the injured Diogo Jota and Caoimhin Kelleher didn’t make an appearance from Klopp’s regular squad.

Getting the first glimpse of exciting new boys Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho is something they’ll always remember, too.

It’s onwards to Singapore now for Liverpool, and a date with Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace. The Eagles have made one or two interesting additions as ever, but The Reds should be able to give the fans there a little more to shout about.
