‘At the end’: Pundit noticed how Jurgen Klopp reacted to Liverpool just after the final whistle tonight

Jason McAteer noticed Jurgen Klopp’s full-time reaction as Liverpool lost 1-0 v RB Salzburg on Wednesday. The Reds just couldn’t score.

Liverpool played out a 1-0 defeat against RB Salzburg tonight and it was just one of those games. The Reds had plenty of half chances to find the net but simply couldn’t – they might not have scored in a week of football.

But that’s how friendlies can go, especially with heavy rotation. Jurgen Klopp left pretty much the entire first XI on the bench here, only bringing on the likes of Mohamed Salah after 60 minutes.

That’s probably a clue to the starting XI on Saturday, in fact.

Liverpool, then, can easily excuse this defeat. That doesn’t mean they necessarily will, however, and Jason McAteer noticed the immediate reaction of Klopp and co. after the loss.

“One thing I did like was Jurgen Klopp’s disappointment at the end, the players’ disappointment at the end,” McAteer pointed out to LFCTV. “It shows how much they don’t like losing.”

Reaction to Liverpool v Salzburg

It is nice to see, admittedly. It’s the one real positive to take away from this defeat, too, other than the obvious fitness boosts. Liverpool are plainly ready for the season and expecting wins already.

Perhaps that’s a better way to go into the Community Shield, then. The team head into it with a bit of fire and certainly no complacency. Everyone will be wanting to bounce back and correct the mistakes in Austria.

No one can doubt the fighting spirit in the side at this point, of course. The bulk of Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp is built on it and it’s still there, even in pre-season.

Roll on Saturday, then. This team is ready to bite back after this disappointment and hopefully, City will feel the full extent of that.
