Liverpool teenager Stefan Bajcetic could be in-line for a bigger role in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad next season.

As a result of the news from The Times that Tyler Morton is set for a loan deal at Blackburn Rovers, a space could open up for Bajcetic.

The 17-year-old has looked incredibly comfortable playing as the No.6 in pre-season. After impressing whilst away in Asia, he was then invited to the team’s training camp in Austria.

Bajcetic also managed some minutes against RB Leipzig last night. Once again, he looked unflustered as he calmly dictated play in a performance Fabinho would’ve been proud of.

One in, one out from the Liverpool academy

There’s no doubt about it, Stefan Bajcetic has been the revelation of this year’s pre-season at Liverpool.

The youngster’s emergence as a potential option could even have paved the way for Morton to leave the club. With Liverpool slightly low in midfield options, Jurgen Klopp needs all the help he can get in the position.

Last season, this included Morton playing nine times for the senior team. Next season, it looks as though he may not have that option, with Bajcetic the most likely candidate to take his place.

But it isn’t just his quality that could see him in the team. Aside from a goal-scoring midfielder, the main hole in Klopp’s midfield options tends to be a like-for-like cover for Fabinho.

While Morton attempted this last season, Klopp has since suggested that he sees him more as No.8.

Bajcetic meanwhile looks very much a No.6. Able to dictate and break-up the play in equal measure, he looks ready-made for this role at Liverpool.

Of course, he needs to add a bit of bulk first, and he shouldn’t be thrown in at the deep end. But with Morton needing the time away to continue his development, it makes sense that his replacement should be the next youngster off the academy production line.
