Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes made his final decision over a transfer this summer, according to reports. Liverpool are linked.
This comes from O Jogo. They claim that Matheus Nunes will remain with Sporting this season after talks with manager Rúben Amorim. Amorim has no desire to let Nunes go and has convinced him to stick around for one more year.
It seems Amorim’s refusal to sanction any sale has driven up Nunes’s price, too. It would cost around £51m to get him, even if a club could convince the player to push for a transfer. That, surely, is too high for most teams.
Matheus Nunes makes final decision
Reports from all over Portugal have linked Liverpool with an interest in Nunes over the last few weeks. The most recent comes from Correio de Manha, who believe the Reds want to add the 23-year-old to their midfield right now.
That, of course, is at odds with talk out of England where Liverpool insist that they won’t do any further incoming business this summer. But we’re not 100% sold on that.
Fabrizio Romano recently talked about Liverpool making calls to Borussia Dortmund over Jude Bellingham. They’d like the Englishman this summer – but Dortmund aren’t entertaining the idea. The journalist then doubled down on that yesterday.
It appears we can drop that idea, though, as Sporting won’t entertain a sale, either. Liverpool will head into the new season with the midfielders they’ve got, who should just about be enough to see them through the campaign.
2023, though? That should see at least one major signing in the middle. Bellingham would certainly be our choice but fans should absolutely have eyes on Nunes, too.
