Report: Liverpool midfielder who Klopp called ‘incredible’ just weeks ago now set for Championship loan move

Young Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is heading to Championship side Blackburn Rovers on-loan.

That’s according to The Times, who claim that the midfielder is set to leave Liverpool on a season-long deal.

Morton is reportedly keen to ‘maintain his development’ with regular game time in the Championship. He made nine appearances for Liverpool last year, but should play considerably more in the second tier.

The 19-year-old is the third player The Reds have loaned to Blackburn in the last three seasons. Harvey Elliott was a roaring success, while Leighton Clarkson failed to make an impression. Hopefully Morton can follow more in Elliott’s footsteps.

This is a good move for Morton. Having broken into the Liverpool first-team last season, it’s the right moment to go in search of more playing time.

He may be about to leave Anfield, but he certainly won’t be forgotten by Jurgen Klopp and his coaches.

The manager made a point of singling out Morton as being in ‘incredible’ shape just two weeks ago.

“By the way, Tyler Morton in training, incredible!” said the Liverpool boss via The Times. “He plays as a No 8 now, we don’t force him to play as a controlling No 6 in a Premier League game (like against Spurs last season). He’s training as an 8, and it’s like ‘wow, how good is that?!’ He’s still here.”

It looks like he won’t be ‘here’ for too much longer. Morton will be back though. In the meantime, he will be desperate to show that he can cope with the rigours of Championship football.

A stint at Blackburn swallowed Clarkson up last season in the same midfield. He was the same age as Morton when he joined Rovers last season, but just couldn’t find his rhythm.

Some Liverpool fans may be slightly wary of letting another midfielder leave the club with clamour to bring a new one in. But at this stage, it’s more important that Morton finds his feet in a senior team.

Fingers crossed he’s able to do that with a successful stint in Lancashire. All the best, Tyler!
