Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on Bukayo Saka this week. Liverpool appear to be putting real pressure on things.

Fabrizio Romano gave Arsenal fans an update on Bukayo Saka in his column for CaughtOffside. The journalist essentially writes that the Gunners are in talks with the player and desperately want his signature.

“Arsenal consider Saka a key player and think his contract extension is like a new signing,” writes Romano. “It is a priority for this summer.

“The top English clubs have been monitoring the situation for some time but the good news for Gunners supporters is that Arsenal is the player’s priority: Saka loves the club and there is a negotiation in progress.”

It’s clear there, then, that Saka wants to renew and Arsenal need to meet his demands. Liverpool fans will know the feeling – we’ve all been through it with Mohamed Salah.

Now, though, Liverpool are on the other side of it. Because if Arsenal can’t find an agreement here, the Reds will surely pounce.

Romano gives Bukayo Saka update

The Daily Mail wrote back in June that Liverpool want Saka. His contract currently expires in 2023 – but it’s a little more complicated than that. Arsenal retain an option to automatically extend his current deal by a year, though that will be a last resort.

After all, that situation only comes about if there’s no new deal in a year’s time. That would suggest Saka wants out and the Gunners could only keep him by forcing another year out of a contract he doesn’t want.

That’s why, as Romano says, the top English clubs are monitoring this one. The longer it goes without a new deal, the more pressure they’ll apply and that pressure is already great. There’s a reason Arsenal would celebrate it like a new signing, after all.

We think Saka would be a tremendous signing and Liverpool could force a move next summer if the Gunners fails to find a new deal. Perhaps another poor season from them would confirm Saka’s exit, then.

This could be one to watch.
