LOSC Lille are seriously considering an improved offer from West Ham United to sell Amadou Onana this summer, amid a host of rival interest from Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who report the Hammers have upped their best bid for the Belgian to edge the serious competition David Moyes is now facing. The Scot is determined to see Onana move to the London Stadium before the Irons raise the curtain for the new season at home to Manchester City.
Onana only joined Lille from Hamburg last summer in a move that set the Ligue 1 side back just €7m (£6m). Yet Les Dogues are likely to bank a quick and substantial profit, as West Ham have now tabled a €38m (£32.5m) offer plus add-ons. A bid that chiefs at the Stade Pierre Mauroy are contemplating.
The offer is the third bid that West Ham have tabled for Onana’s transfer this summer and has made Lille seriously consider cashing in. It is also a clear sign of Moyes’ determination to bring the one-cap international to England, following a strong maiden campaign in France after four years in Germany.
West Ham table third Onana bid against Liverpool interest in Lille ace
Onana featured 42 times for Lille last season across all competitions, yet the 20-year-old only started 15 games. He enjoyed minutes in all eight of their Champions League ties, too, but only opened two fixtures, and was shifted to centre-half when introduced off the bench against Chelsea in the last 16.
Yet his performances have seen Lille slap a sky-high asking price on the Dakar, Senegal native amid a raft of Premier League interest. The Athletic report that Nottingham Forest identified the midfielder after winning promotion from the Championship play-offs, but several top-flight clubs are also keen.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle are all interested in rivalling West Ham, given Onana’s potential, but a move to London is seen as the most likely option should he leave Lille. And with the Hammers upping their bid to a level Les Dogues are considering, it seems increasingly likely he joins the Irons.
However, 90min note while citing interest from Everton that Lille may hold out for as much as £50m this summer. So, West Ham’s offer of £32.5m plus add-ons may have to feature substantial bonuses.
