Liverpool hold one massive advantage over Real Madrid in the race for Jude Bellingham

Liverpool hold a major advantage over Real Madrid in any race for Jude Bellingham. The two clubs appear ready to battle for the player.

Reports that Real Madrid want Jude Bellingham just won’t go away. Marca is the latest to make the claim – they see Bellingham as the latest ideal player for the future of their midfield.

Of course, they’re not the only club to see things that way. Fabrizio Romano reported on his podcast this week that Liverpool also like Bellingham.

“Jurgen Klopp in the last 24 hours said that he was a fantastic player and everything but he is not on the market,” said Romano.

“The reality is that Liverpool, immediately after missing out on Aurelien Tchouameni, they were exploring this discussion for Jude Bellingham, but it was not even a negotiation because he’s not on the market.”

But Bellingham may be available in 2023. The Liverpool Echo claim that the Reds are preparing for that and could be a ‘significant fee’ to land him. However, it appears Real see things the same way and would also meet the asking price.

Fortunately, then, Liverpool appear to hold the advantage here.

Liverpool v Real Madrid for Jude Bellingham

Marca’s article explains how Real are looking to replace their wildly successful midfield trio of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. They’ve already started that process, in fact, with Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde.

But that also shows their weakness in any Bellingham pursuit – he’d be walking into a tough competition for places. Real play with three midfielders, typically, and already have a trio that fits together.

Liverpool, on the other hand, can offer Bellingham a clear first-team role as the future of their midfield. They’re wanting to replace Jordan Henderson and Thiago long-term and right now, they have precisely zero out-and-out midfielders to do that.

The likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are all attacking players. They’re likely to cover the forward roles, too, and offer something different to Henderson and Thiago. Bellingham, in our eyes, is absolutely perfect for what Liverpool want.

And that could swing the balance here. Real want Bellingham as the latest in their collection of elite young midfielders. Liverpool would want him to be the future of their midfield and their true star. As the Englishman looks to take his career to the next level, Anfield surely looks like the better gamble.
