'Expect him to leave': Journalist now claims £120m man will move next summer, after rumours Liverpool want him

Reported Liverpool transfer target Declan Rice has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ he can leave West Ham United next summer.

That’s according to journalist Alex Crook. As quoted by TalkSPORT, Crook claims that the reported Liverpool target will give West Ham one more year.

“I think Declan Rice will give West Ham one more year,” said the journalist. “I think there’s almost a gentleman agreement that he will do that, although we know they don’t mean much in football from the Harry Kane saga last summer.”

Crook then claimed that Chelsea, not Liverpool, could be Rice’s most likely destination.

“I expect him to leave next summer and if Chelsea are a Champions League club, if they finish in the top four as I would expect them to, I think they’ll be right there knocking on West Ham’s door,” he concluded.

Timing lining up for Liverpool and Rice

Given what we know about Liverpool’s plan to wait until next summer for a midfield signing, Rice could be the man.

All signs point towards Rice’s England teammate, Jude Bellingham, being Liverpool’s number one target for the position. But The Reds reportedly have concerns about being able to match the wages being offered to Bellingham by other clubs.

Of course, the competition for Rice may be just as strong. Chelsea have long been rumoured to have been interested in their former academy player, but other top teams will be interested too.

According to 90min back in September, all of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United want Rice. With City now signing Kalvin Phillips, you’d think that would put them out of the equation.

United could still be hovering, but Liverpool remains a better sporting project at the current time.

The Bellingham alternative

Regardless, it’s likely to be the same clubs in for Bellingham, who are in for Rice. Although Rice is a starter for England and a well-known figure, perhaps his wage demands may be slightly less than the Borussia Dortmund youngster’s.

He’s still a good age – he’ll be twenty-four in a year’s time – and obviously has copious amounts of Premier League experience. Rice has also played in Europe for West Ham, and will do so again next season.

Price-tag could be issue, that same report from 90min suggests West Ham would look for £120m for their star man. But with club’s aware of Rice’s desire to leave, this could surely be knocked down.

Certainly something for Liverpool to ponder, if they’re not able to secure their top, top target. The Reds have been urged in the past to consider Rice as an option. Who knows, perhaps they will.
