'What a player': Liverpool midfielder left blown away by 19-year-old prospect after training alongside him this week

Harvey Elliott has praised the way that Fabio Carvalho has settled into training at Liverpool this week.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com after The Reds landed in Thailand yesterday, Elliott said he had been blown away by the teenager.

“He’s buzzing to be here, he’s fit in really well with the boys,” said Elliott. “I’ve done what I could to help him but, to be honest, I didn’t really need to help him. He’s just fit in and everyone’s taken to him already.”

Having played with Carvalho as a youngster at Fulham, Elliott is no stranger to the 19-year-old’s ability. And he was keen to stress just how good he thinks the Portugal youth international can be.

“What a player, by the way,” he continued. “We have a true superstar on our hands to say the least and I can’t wait to just share the pitch with him and, like the old times, play alongside him, which will be good.”

Carvalho earns the plaudits of his teammates

Elliott joins the list of Liverpool players to have gone on record with their praise of Carvalho in the last week.

First, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain labelled the youngster as being ‘technically gifted’ after training with him for barely a day. Then, Rhys Williams said his first impression of the former Fulham man was that he is ‘brilliant.’

Carvalho has clearly impressed Jurgen Klopp, too. The manager proclaimed himself to be ‘over the moon’ with adding the forward to his squad when speaking to the press last weekend.

Fabio has clearly left his mark on his new teammates and coaches from the very first session of his Liverpool career.

These are early days though, and the teenager can’t afford to get carried away as he attempts to muscle his way into Klopp’s plans. Competition is fierce, and he’ll have to be patient.

Initially, it’s been reported that Carvalho will largely be used in the cup competitions as a way of easing him in.

It’s up to the young man to show why he deserves a more prominent role with his performances in those games.

Carvalho seems like a confident young man and his teammates are obviously impressed. If he can make a big impression during the season proper, he could turn out to be an absolute steal for Liverpool.
