Report: ‘Frightening’ 17-year-old Liverpool prospect could be training with the first-team next week

Kaide Gordon is in line to return to Liverpool’s squad after they come back from their pre-season tour of Asia.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that the youngster could join Liverpool’s squad next week.

Gordon has stayed in Liverpool to continue his rehabilitation from an unspecified injury. The Reds reportedly decided that the 17-year-old would be better off remaining on home soil as he prepares for a return.

An timely update is also given on Caoimhin Kelleher’s situation. The back-up goalkeeper is reportedly suffering from a ‘knock’ and has also stayed behind as he recovers.

No timeline is given on Kelleher’s comeback. Unlike Gordon, there’s no mention of a return next week.

Plenty of time for Gordon to make an impact

Good news on both counts for Liverpool here. It’s really unfortunate that Gordon in particular is missing the chance to impress during the early parts of pre-season.

He’s a brilliant prospect, one who Trent Alexander-Arnold called ‘frightening’ via The Athletic. As Liverpool look unlikely to bring in a natural understudy for Mohamed Salah, he’s the next in-line for the right-sided slot.

Had he missed the whole of pre-season, that would have set him back heading into a massive campaign for him personally.

Luckily, that looks like it should be avoided. There’s still plenty of football to be played between now and the Premier League kick-off on 6th August.

If he can re-join the Liverpool squad in plenty of time before then, he can still make a big impact.

With his talent and an opening potentially there in the squad, that could be the platform he needs to explode this year.

As for Kelleher, his place in the squad is more than secure. Hopefully he can make it back to full fitness in good time for the season. If not, Adrian can fill in capably until he re-joins the group.
