Liverpool appear to be taking Stefan Bajcetic on their tour this summer. The 17-year-old is a very bright prospect.
Liverpool departed for their pre-season tour this weekend and it appears that Stefan Bajcetic is joining them. The defender joined the Reds in late 2020 before signing a professional contract in November 2021.
And Bajetic has done well enough that Jurgen Klopp and co. want a closer look at him. They’ll get that as the first-team trains together ahead of the new season.
Bajcetic, a 17-year-old defender, arrived from Celta Vigo after quite a bit of competition for his signature. The Athletic reported at the time that Manchester United were eager to sign him, only for Liverpool to ‘swoop in’ and clinch a deal.
He quickly impressed and the Reds offered a professional contract as soon as they could. Bajcetic also earned praise from coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson at the time.
“He is doing really well,” said Bridge-Wilkinson, per the Athletic. “He is playing a little bit different in midfield at the minute but he is good enough to play there.
“He is good enough to play the game in and out of possession in that position as well as at centre-back. We are really pleased for him today.”
Stefan Bajcetic to head on Liverpool tour
It’s always exciting when a young player gets this opportunity and sometimes it leads to a first-team place the following season. Harvey Elliott was an example of that last year – though, he was far more experienced than Bajetic at the time.
Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold are perhaps better examples. Each of them got games at right-back in pre-season tours, with the latter eventually establishing himself in the role. Jones, on the other hand, used the games to get his foot in the door before earning a midfield place.
And so with so much to be excited for already in pre-season, perhaps Bajcetic can be another to watch. He’s a big talent and we can’t wait to see what he can do in and amongst the first-team players.
