The five Liverpool players we're most excited to see in pre-season as 'brilliant' teenager makes early impact

Liverpool are about to kick-off their 2022 pre-season and there are plenty of reasons to be excited. Here are five players to look out for.

Pre-season is always an interesting time and Liverpool have given everyone reasons to watch in 2022. It’s when you get to see your first glimpses of new signings, after all, while young players get an opportunity to step up and how what they can do.

So here we pick out five players you should watch in pre-season 2022.

Fabio Carvalho

Maybe the most obvious one here is Carvalho as he ticks both boxes. Not only is he a new addition to the squad but also a young player with enormous potential.

In fact, the playmaker is already impressing as Rhys Williams says he’s been ‘brilliant, hitting a ‘high, high standard’ already. One of the other most interesting things about Carvalho is where he’ll play. Will Jurgen Klopp use him as a forward or a midfielder?

Harvey Elliott

Last pre-season was massive for Elliott. Liverpool gave him a proper chance with the first team as they looked to integrate him into the squad. Klopp also changed his position, converting the winger into a midfield role that has since become his go-to position.

Elliott carried that into the season, putting in some wonderful performances before his injury. That injury seriously disrupted things, however, and this pre-season is an opportunity to get back on track.

Darwin Nunez

This one doesn’t really need an explanation. Liverpool have spent £64m on Nunez and it seems he’ll be the new star striker at the club. We can’t wait to see what he brings.

But there’s more to it than that. We’re not sure how Klopp will use the Uruguayan as Liverpool haven’t really played with an out-and-out forward under the boss. It could well mean a change in playing style.

Calvin Ramsay

Okay, yes, it’s quite boring to just mention the three signings but all three have genuine excitement around them. Ramsay is certainly the most routine of the three – he’s a right-back and we can’t see him playing anywhere else – but just how good is he?

Is the Scot going to put any pressure on Trent Alexander-Arnold this season? Probably not, in all honesty, but we’ll get to see if Ramsay can play a significant first-team role.

Ibrahima Konaté

We’re incredibly excited to see what Konaté will bring from now on. He arrived a year ago as a promising centre-back who could well put pressure on the established players already at the club. The Frenchman ended it as Klopp’s choice alongside Virgil van Dijk in the Champions League final.

Konaté also played fantastically well in that final and he just kept improving as the season went on. Still only 23, we expect he’ll simply continue on that trajectory as one of the most exciting young defenders on the planet. We can’t wait to see what he brings and it starts with pre-season.
