Mohamed Salah has thanked Liverpool fans for welcoming the team back to the city after losing the Champions League final.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com after signing a new deal at the club, Salah looked back on the Liverpool trophy parade in May.
“It’s something unbelievable, you wouldn’t see it anywhere [else],” said the Egyptian. “I think the people appreciate what we did and what we were doing during the season. There were two big disappointments for us in the last week of the season, but they know we did our best to win those trophies so that’s why they were there. I want to thank them for that experience.”
The parade was a brilliant moment after the crushing disappointment of losing two big trophies. Hopefully it has given the players all the motivation they need to go one better next season.
Salah all set for new season
You get the sense that Salah is gearing up for a massive season at Liverpool.
The 30-year-old is a player who feeds off trying to prove a point to doubters. Having just missed out on both the Premier League and Champions League titles, Mo will be desperate to reclaim them again in 2022/23.
With his future now put to bed, Salah can concentrate fully on catapulting Liverpool into the new campaign.
After a gruelling season, the hope is that Mo has had time to properly rest up during the off-season. He still has another week on holiday before he joins up with his teammates at the AXA Training Centre.
The new year also comes with the promise of a month’s break in the middle. Salah will have been desperately disappointed to miss out on the World Cup with Egypt. But perhaps that’ll prove to be the perfect tonic for him to record his best season since moving to Liverpool for £34m in 2017.
Certainly, his new bumper wages will come with added expectation from fans and pundits. But that is something Salah has always thrived on.
The feeling is that Liverpool’s number 11 is chomping at the bit to lead The Reds’ new-look attack into a new era under Jurgen Klopp. We can’t wait.
