Report: Mo Salah not expected to join his Liverpool teammates for pre-season training on Monday

Liverpool’s pre-season training preparations will begin without Mohamed Salah on Monday.

As per The Times, Salah is instead expected to ‘report back’ to the AXA Training Centre on Saturday 9th July.

The Egyptian is fresh from signing a new, bumper contract with Liverpool. But supporters wishing to see their number 11 back on home turf will have to wait another week.

Salah will be joined in his extended holiday by the Liverpool players who had international commitments directly after the season’s end.

Liverpool looking light for pre-season return

As a result of the internationals tacked onto the end of the season, Liverpool will be far from full-strength on Monday.

Along with Salah, the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and new-boy Darwin Nunez are likely to be absent. Ibrahima Konate, Fabio Carvalho, Andy Robertson, Alisson Becker and Fabinho, too.

Question marks hang over both Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota. Both were called up for duty by their country’s, but both subsequently picked up knocks. Fingers crossed for both that they don’t start the training camp injured.

Liverpool’s group is also likely to be bulked up by youngsters. The academy players will get a full five days trying to impress Jurgen Klopp before the senior pros return.

If any can turn the manager’s head, they could be called up for the trip to Singapore to play Man United on 12th July.

Heading up the seniors will be the ever-green James Milner, as well as Jordan Henderson.

Roberto Firmino was again overlooked for the summer internationals, too. Firmino will be looking to get a head-start as he aims to win himself a new contract at Liverpool.

An exciting week lies ahead for Liverpool. By this time next week, preparations will be well underway. Barring any injuries, Klopp should be able to count on his full squad from Saturday. After Salah’s unexpected announcement yesterday, the excitement for the new season is full-steam ahead.
