Liverpool believe Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic could have elite potential, according to reports. The Reds are eyeing up a new signing.
This comes from Goal. They claim that Liverpool are looking at midfielders right now and have a few high on their list.
It appears that no one on that list sits higher than Jude Bellingham. In fact, the article quotes a source from Liverpool as saying that they want a ‘Jude Bellingham-type’. Now, now one is more like Jude Bellingham than Jude Bellingham – but it’s not that easy.
The Englishman would cost an absolute fortune, both in transfer fee and wages. The competition will be intense, too, especially if the teenager has a good World Cup later this year.
And so Liverpool have eyes on alternatives. Nico Barella is mentioned as one that Jurgen Klopp rates particularly highly but the report also talks briefly of Luka Sucic.
Liverpool think the 19-year-old might just have elite potential.
Luka Sucic and his potential
Sucic is a midfielder who just exploded into life once 2022 kicked in. Playing for RB Salzburg, the Croatian didn’t score at all over the first half of last season.
But in 12 Austrian Bundesliga games across 2022, Sucic scored eight times and assisted another two. He even popped up with a few in the Austrian Cup, including a goal in the final.
And so Sucic feels like the next top prospect out of Salzburg. Liverpool believe they have a strong relationship with the club, too, which could make any transfer easier.
This one, though, is about waiting. Six months of football in Austria won’t be enough for Liverpool to pick Sucic as a Bellingham alternative – especially when Bellingham is just about perfect.
Another great season, however, could push Sucic right up the list and give the Reds something to think about. Their move towards attacking midfielders suggests that the Croatian could be a perfect fit and, compared to the Borussia Dortmund man, a potential bargain.
And even better yet, we all get to watch him up close very soon.
