Thiago offered up some huge praise for Jordan Henderson this week. The Spaniard holds the Liverpool captain in high regard.

Nike and Liverpool released a 36-minute documentary on Jordan Henderson this week. The film sees journalists, analysts, teammates, Gareth Southgate and Jurgen Klopp offer their thoughts on the Reds’ captain.

Needless to say, it’s an overwhelmingly positive 36 minutes and it’s very clear that everyone holds Henderson in the highest regard. One of those waxing lyrical about the player is Thiago, who clearly loves what the Englishman brings to the side.

“He’s one of the best players, midfield players I’ve ever played with in my life,” said Thiago. “I’m proud to be a part of his team and happy to play alongside him.”

The Spaniard then went into Henderson’s character and what he brings off the ball – and off the pitch.

“I think Jordan has great character that teaches us that nothing is guaranteed, that we have to fight for everything and have to give our best as possible,” he said.

“He’s a player that from the moment you arrive, he helps you get settled, helps you feel at home. And then on the pitch, he helps you stay alert and concentrated on the game.”

This shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone. Just listening to the likes of Klopp, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold speak about Henderson shows how highly everyone regards him.

And it’s particularly telling that his motivational qualities stand tall. Everyone points to his ability to keep the team ticking over on the pitch, even managing it at times. They point to how Henderson makes things easier and keeps things focused.

The captain’s record has always backed that up, too. From January 2019 through September 2021, Liverpool only lost two Premier League games with Henderson starting in midfield. Both came away at Manchester City, with the second coming literally days after the Reds won the title.

The humiliating defeats to Watford and Aston Villa in that timespan stood out because Henderson didn’t play. Their collapse in 2020/21 came as he moved into defence due to an injury crisis. It’s pretty indisputable that Liverpool are a weaker team when their captain isn’t there.

And if you doubt that for a second, just listen to his teammates convince you.
