‘It was just incredible’: Sadio Mané wants to ‘especially’ thank one Liverpool teammate as he leaves the club

Sadio Mané paid special respects to Roberto Firmino as he left Liverpool for Bayern Munich on Wednesday. The two have made history together.

Sadio Mané is no longer a Liverpool player as he joins Bayern Munich after six years at Anfield. And what six years they’ve been. Mané has helped the Reds to their most successful era in over 30 years.

We’ve seen some incredible moments over that spell – and some remarkable goals – as the Senegal star helped transform Liverpool. But for all he did individually, he’ll forever be synonymous with a world-class front-three.

Mané, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been the backbone of Liverpool’s success. They’re the ones that scored the goals, created chances, led the press, pushed teams back and produced the big moments.

And Mané was eager to thank his two teammates as he departs the club. Firmino, though, gets a special mention.

“Wow, for sure, Bobby and Mo – what players!” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “I think there are no other secrets because playing alongside these great players, they make everything easier for me.

“I think I am just supporting this and especially Bobby, who always dropped and made space for me and Mo, I think it was just incredible.”

Fully deserved praise for Firmino, who played the selfless role for both Mané and Salah. As Mané says, Firmino was the one who created space for the two goalscorers. He linked the midfield to attack, triggered the press and really did the dirty work for the others to shine.

There’s a reason, after all, that Klopp says you could write a book about the Brazilian. Firmino is just that good.

Mané clearly sees that and we’d expect nothing less than a very modest shout-out for his now-former teammate. The ex-number 10 certainly benefitted from playing alongside the South American for six years. Everyone does.
