Sadio Mané picked out his two best Liverpool goals on Wednesday as he left for Bayern Munich. He felt like apologising for one of them.
Liverpool officially announced on Wednesday that Sadio Mané has left the club for Bayern Munich. And with that, we get the end of an era as one of the Reds’ best ever forwards calls time on his Anfield career.
This one has been rumoured for weeks, of course. That doesn’t make it much easier but there’s little surprise here – just a little bit of heartbreak. Mané, after all, has been at the centre of Liverpool’s success over the last six years. Their most successful period over 30 years.
He did that by delivering some incredible goals. But which are the best in his eyes? Mané talked to Liverpoolfc.com about his efforts and picked out his two favourite strikes for the Reds.

“My first goal at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal on my debut,” said Mané for his first pick. That was a sensational goal – one that truly announced that Liverpool had picked up a special player.
Mané took the ball on the run down the right flank before turning defenders inside out and firing it into the back of the net with his weaker foot. Suddenly, Liverpool had someone who could take on defences all on his own.
As for his second? Well, Mané felt he should say sorry for it – he scored past his new teammates, after all.
“My second goal, I would say, against Bayern Munich,” he said, before whispering “Bayern Munich! Manuel Neuer!
“Sorry Manu! I’m coming! But I think the second goal was also unbelievable.”
That one is pretty unquestionably Mané’s finest moment in a Liverpool shirt. The technique and composure is unreal, while he scores a vital goal that puts the Reds on course for the Champions League trophy.
We’ll just hope that he never returns that favour for his new club…
