Virgil Van Dijk and Kostas Tsimikas react to news just coming out of Liverpool this afternoon

Virgil Van Dijk and Kostas Tsimikas have posted their goodbyes to Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.

Posting on his Instagram story, Van Dijk sent a heartfelt message to the man he has shared a dressing room with at two different clubs.

“Wishing you all the best at your next adventure,” wrote Virgil. “You will be missed brother, leaving as a BIG Liverpool legend.”

Tsimikas, also writing on Instagram, went with a similar theme. “We will miss you brother,” wrote the Greek Scouser, accompanied with a picture of the two celebrating a goal together.

We’re not crying, promise!

Getting used to goodbyes

As Mane completes his move to Bayern Munich, expect to see plenty of tributes coming his way over the next few days.

When you’ve achieved what the Senegalese has at Liverpool, you simply can’t leave quietly.

Many of these Liverpool players have been at the club for a long time together. Mane has been a huge part of the success of recent years and his departure is sure to be keenly felt.

But that’s football. And as Jurgen Klopp’s first great Liverpool team start to slowly disband, we’ll have to get used to the goodbyes in the coming years.

Luckily, players like Van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Fabinho have only recently committed their futures to the club.

While we lose legends like Mane and perhaps Mohamed Salah, at least the bedrock of the side will still remain in place. New players like Luis Diaz also offer the promise of further success.

Often in life only when you lose something do you realise just how good it was. As Mane moves on from Liverpool, his feats with the club will take on an even greater significance.

Goodbye Sadio, and thanks for all the goals!
