Liverpool are attempting to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella this summer.
That’s according to calciomercatoweb.it, who claim that The Reds are ‘pressing’ to ‘snatch’ Barella from Inter.
The 25-year-old has reportedly impressed Jurgen Klopp. So struck by his displays in Milan, Klopp is said to have been ‘bewitched’ by Barella.
Inter are reportedly desperate to keep their star midfielder though, and wouldn’t accept less than around £77m for him.
Liverpool sweeten the deal
As part of the report, calciomercatoweb.it include an interesting little aside from InterLive. They claim that Liverpool would be willing to include Naby Keita in a swap deal for Barella.
The Reds hierarchy reportedly consider Inter’s demands for Barella to be excessive. To that end, they hope the inclusion of Keita would help to lower the demands.
However, Inter are reportedly unwilling to accept such an arrangement.
Now or never for Barella
There’s no doubt that Barella would be a supreme addition to the Liverpool team. He would fill the right-sided midfield spot like a dream.
But as we now know, Liverpool are unprepared to add a midfielder to the squad this summer.
Having just broken the bank to secure the signing of Darwin Nunez, there seems little-to-no chance of them doing the same again for Barella.
He is a name who has long been doing the rounds in respect of a move to Anfield. At twenty-five, he’s now pretty much the perfect age for Liverpool to make their move.
In that sense, this summer would seem like now or never. Unfortunately, as much as we’d like to be proven wrong, we think this files under the ‘never’ category.
