Report: Face-to-face talks over transfer of 'amazing' Liverpool player now set to take place today

Liverpool are set to hold face-to-face talks with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Sadio Mane today.

That’s according to The Times, who report that a ‘delegation’ from Bayern will travel to England on Friday.

Leading that party will reportedly be the German club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Having already had two bids rejected for Mane, Bayern are travelling to Liverpool in an attempt to agree a deal.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are still said to be holding out for their £42.5m asking price to allow Mane to leave.

Thanks for everything, Sadio

The inference here is that a deal is just a matter of time away. At this stage it looks a formality that Mane will leave sooner rather than later this window.

In that case, all that’s left to do is to thank a player who has been truly magnificent for Liverpool.

From the moment he came in, Mane rose the bar for what Liverpool fans can expect from their attackers. His goals lit the touch-paper for the Jurgen Klopp era and he went from strength to strength from there.

He had everything you could ask for in a forward. Pace, power, finishing, relentless work-rate. Former Liverpool man Danny Murphy recently called him ‘amazing’ via TalkSPORT and that’s a fitting sentiment.

There aren’t many players in the club’s history who can lay claim to over 100 goals during their time at Anfield. Sadio Mane can.

He leaves sitting in 14th place in Liverpool’s all-time top goal scorers. 120 goals in 269 games. Many of them stupidly good, too.

It would have been nice to see him stay at Liverpool into the autumn of his career, but in the end it wasn’t to be. Nevertheless, from this point on, all Liverpool fans will continue to wish him all the best as he moves onto Germany.

Thanks for everything, Sadio. A true modern day Liverpool legend. You’ll Never Walk Alone.
