Liverpool still have some big plans this summer, it seems, and it could leave their 2021/22 squad looking quite different. Here’s what the Reds hope will happen.
Liverpool officially signed Darwin Nunez this week in what is their biggest transfer of the summer. He’ll join Fabio Carvalho as a first-team addition and, it seems, Calvin Ramsay.
The Athletic, among others, report that the Reds have agreed a fee with Aberdeen for the young right-back. He’s set to be the final incoming deal this summer – but that doesn’t mean the Reds are done.
The Mirror reports that five players could leave the club over the coming weeks. Sadio Mané tops that list but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Takumi Minamino, Nat Phillips and Neco Williams may depart also.
So with all of that in mind, here’s how Liverpool’s 2021/22 squad could look heading into next season.
The 2021/22 Liverpool squad
Goalkeeper
Liverpool will have Alisson Becker as first-choice, of course, with Caoimhin Kelleher backing him up. Adrian is still around, too – we’ll see if the Reds move him on but there aren’t many suggestions that they will.
Those will be the three in the first-team squad, then. Marcelo Pitaluga could make a step up if there’s room.
Defence
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Calvin Ramsay will be the options at right-back, with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas the opposite options.
Then there are four centre-backs – Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté. It’s worth mentioning Rhys Williams, too, who could play a covering role.
Midfield
Fabinho is essentially the lone holding midfielder in the squad, with Jordan Henderson, Thiago and Naby Keita as first-choice options alongside him. James Milner is then the utility man as a wonderful squad option.
There are three youngsters to consider, too. Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho are all set for big roles this season as Liverpool look to move towards a more attacking midfield.
Attack
Quite a bit of change here but Jurgen Klopp retains his luxury of having five elite forwards to pick from. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are the long-standing options, with Diogo Jota entering his third Liverpool season.

Then there’s Luis Diaz, of course, who thrived after arriving in January. Darwin Nunez is the new boy – and potentially the club’s record signing.
