Report: Liverpool have genuine chance of signing 23-year-old PL star, he's already raved about Mo Salah

Liverpool have a genuine chance of signing Christian Pulisic from Chelsea this summer.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that a move to Liverpool for Pulisic is seen as being ‘viable.’

It’s claimed that Thomas Tuchel’s desire to freshen up his squad as well as Sadio Mane’s departure play a part in that. Other interested clubs such as Juventus and Barcelona are also said to unprepared to pay the fee to secure the American.

Additionally, Liverpool reportedly made a move to sign Pulisic as a 16-year-old in 2016. Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for the player in on public record, and the 23-year-old ‘fits the profile’ for a Liverpool attacking signing.

There is no suggestion that Liverpool have made any kind of interest in the player official as of yet. But encouraging signs nonetheless.

An intriguing option for Liverpool

In many respects, Pulisic would be the perfect replacement for Sadio Mane. He’s fast, mobile, versatile and is still yet to turn twenty-four.

Extracting him from a rival would be the trickiest part. Chelsea are seemingly willing to let him go, though. He simply hasn’t hit the heights expected of him since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

With Tuchel willing to dispense of the forward, it’s been reported that Chelsea wouldn’t ask for too much more than the £58m they paid for him in 2019.

Although a hefty fee for an often injured player, it is a price that Liverpool could stomach.

Klopp has worked with the player before, albeit when he was a teenager. The Liverpool boss is clearly a big fan though, and could surely get more out of the player than we’ve seen from him in the Premier League so far.

Pulisic himself has also previously talked up The Reds’ players. At the end of last year he called Mohamed Salah ‘the best player in the world’ as well as a ‘top guy’ via Liverpool Echo.

The thought of signing Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund was an exciting one for Liverpool fans. Three-and-half years later, and the prospect has somewhat lost its appeal.

But he has shown flashes of excellence during his time in England. If Klopp could get him back to his pre-Chelsea levels, he could be a very smart signing indeed.
